Description
This is my favorite bridge, having lived in Astoria NY in the 70's, I spent a lot of time in Astoria sketching and taking photos of this bridge. I took one of my pen and ink sketches, scanned and finished the drawing in the computer, using photos and sketches as references. The bridge was built in 1916, the heavy steel arch is suppossed to support 60 locomotives at a time, is now used by Amtrak and freight lines. It runs over the Hell Gate section of the East River, known for killer currents, and connects Astoria Queens with the Bronx.

Really well designed picture. Those images in that syle look like Eau-fortes, ( etchings), love it! V&F

Nice of you to say that - I grew up as an etcher/engraver - kind of started doing these computer prints when I lost access to an etching press, and have always kept the same style and approach.
